Peterborough County is home to 135,000 people, with over 80,000 being located in the City of Peterborough. Affordable homes lower costs, recreational values, and a great expansion of services for retires have contributed to annual population increases in the area. With average residential home prices still below $300,000 and the availability of land for investors, Peterborough has foreseeable growth prospects for the future. Easy access to Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal and Eastern United States makes Peterborough an attractive place from which to connect to many markets.
The scheduled expansion of the highway 407 corridor is already seeing benefits for the Peterborough area. The Highway 407 East Project will be built in two sections and as two separate projects. The first section (constructed by Spring 2016) includes the mainline from Brock Road to Harmony Road, and Highway 412 connecting it to Highway 401. The second section (to be constructed by late 2020) includes the mainline from Harmony Road to Highway 35/115, and Highway 418 connecting it to Highway 401. The newly expanded and upgraded Peterborough airport has gone through an extensive planning and infrastructure renewal process supported by the Federal, Provincial and Municipal Governments – to better support and serve existing businesses, airport users and to create new business opportunities for job creation.
The investment that the City of Peterborough has made has helped businesses grow, as the record number of takeoffs and landings has been a major driver bringing business into the region. New business opportunity abounds. Below average corporate tax rate, a lower cost of doing business, less competition, and a community supportive of innovative ideas makes Peterborough an incredible environment for starting a new business venture!
